This whole visa process has been excruciating. Today I had to get up again at 8:30, which is what I have done for the past 3 fridays, and go spend my whole morning at the Consulate.
Today I went in praying that I wouldn't be turned down again.
Walked in, and discovered upon this check in that I had become the mayor of the French Consulate on Foursquare. Fuck off, thanks for rubbing it in.
However, I did read something interesting from the book I'm ALLLLMOST finished with:
"On average, successful people have had many more failures than unsuccessful people. This seems counterintuitive. How could successful people have failed more often than everyone else? Failure is unavoidable and sometimes happens randomly. It's what you do after the failure that is important. Successful people have a stick-to-it-iveness. They don't quit. From the president of FedEx to the novelist Jerry Kosinsky, from van Gogh to Bill Clinton to Fleetwood Mac, successful people have had many, many failures, but they learn from them and keep going. This quality might be partly innate, but environment factors must also play a role".

Made me feel better for being such a failure at the consulate.
After another 2 hour long wait, during which I re-encountered a girl I met last week who was picking up a visa for her sister, who also got turned down even though she had all her paper work (I was afraid that I would have to make a 4th visit based on what she was telling me) I got called to window #4 (window #3 belongs to the devil.. a man remarked, the only way to leave the consulate after visiting window #3 is if you are missing a document), I... GOT IT. I GOT IT!

Look at how despondent I look in my photo. I met a girl whose friend is in my program and on my group flight. Everyone I've met so far (like 2 people) have seemed really cool. I'm excited. The girl's grandfather's funeral was the day of her first appointment, but they wouldn't let her reschedule so she was dressed all in black for her photo and crying while waiting for 3 hours. Then the second time they wouldn't let her into the consulate because she didn't bring her confirmation. Man oh man.
Then I went to Sephora because I wanted to pick up my VIB (very important beauty) swag bag and I also wanted to get the limited edition O-Gloss NOIR (it's like a mood lip gloss, changes colors based on your body chemistry which is total bullshit) that's dark purple.
It looked like shit. I like O-Glosses because they're minty fresh and plumping (even the non plumping one. Trust me, I have both. I think I prefer the regular one.. the color is prettier) and they stay on for a good amount of time, but this one went on black, goopy, and made me look like my friend in high school after the first time she made out with someone and he sucked on her mouth too hard.. She had bruised lips for a week. Decided to skip. Girls, if you're looking for a pretty pretty dark berry color, try the YSL one in pure plum (this is not the pure plum, click here to find the correct swatch)

It's beaaauuuutiful, and the YSL gloss purs (get the non sparkly one, the sparkly one is just too much) stay on forever, highly pigmented but subtle hued, and taste like berries and mangoes. Delicious. YSL is making a bright pink fuschia called Watermelon this season, but it was too close to the one I already own 3 of so I decided to pass. Congrats Maria, this may be the first time you went into Sephora and were responsible instead of dropping $300 on shit you don't need. You are growing up! Oh btw, I didn't get to snag the swag bag. The lady looked at me like i was crazy, because it came and went in 1 day and I was a week late.
If you're looking for a dark plum lipstick, try the one from Nars in Viridiana.
France france france lip gloss france france lip gloss! Then I noticed how horrible my eyebrows looked in the beaming lights of the Sephora magnifying mirrors, so I went to get my eyebrows threaded.
Now Imma go to Yoga, go to the gym, and then go to Ali's Bday dinner and then party it up at the Carnival!! Wahoo!!!
