Girl Watch

On my way back from work, on about 11th street and 2nd ave, 3 blocks from home, I heard "MARIAAAA" from behind me and "MARIAAAAA" (2 people jumping on the side walk waving their arms up at me) I was truly confused.

Turns out Ali (my freshman/sophomore year roommate) was behind me, and Ross and Sam (friends since freshman year through Ali, we went to China together) were in front of me, celebrating Happy Hour. I decided to join, even though my original plan was to go to Yoga at 7:30. Tyler (a good friend from Shanghai) was waiting inside Ninth Ward. After two vodka sodas at 7pm both half priced (Total of 7 dollars + 2 tip.. incredible!) I was pretty tanked. Sam and Ali had a reservation at Piola for Lady's Night unlimited wine but since I was finishing my vodka soda, I waited with Tyler as he finished his Purple Haze- ale with raspberry puree. Interesting conversation unfolded.

I left to go home to shower. We were originally going to go to Tenjune for the Lady Gaga release party, as Sam, Ali, and Ross knew a girl hosting the event. Unfortunately at around 10 I received 3 calls from each of them explaining that Lady Gaga herself decided to show up, making the event extremely chaotic and that it would be better to go somewhere else.

I met Ali and Sam at Lillie's which was adorable. I was convinced to get Foursquare earlier that day at Ninth Ward and was forced to check in at least 3 times. I found that there was a special.. Get a free pint of beer or a glass of wine for free after your first check in. I went up to the bartender and got a glass of wine, then later I showed the same check in to the cocktail waitress and scored a beer for free. At the end, the bartender didn't even charge me for my original vodka soda. 3 drinks for free, Cool.

As we walked, every few steps as someone passed Mariel (Sam's best friend from home, she's a psych major at Yale) would say "You just got girl-watched" At one point I decided to ask, what is girl watching? I usually don't engage in eye contact with passerbys. She explained it was a delicate process, that when you see a girl you want to look at you must look at her feet first, scan her upwards, but it should only last 3 seconds to verge on respectful and appreciative. Apparently there's an article written about this art. Not sure if I found the right one but here

Sammy decided we should go to Artichoke. Good, good call. Best pizza of my entire life, melt in your mouth artichoke buttery pizza. Wow.

Tomorrow, Ali's Crunch 21 Party. It's going to be chaotic. I shouldn't be partying so much with work and all, but whatever. Whatever. Whatever.
