INTERNET

I HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT- i finally have INTERNET!!!!

i woke up this morning face down on my bed with all my makeup on and my clothes still on from the night before. the waiter kept pouring us champagne last night, and it was an open bar at the gallery opening so i got a little more drunk than i would have liked to be.

i just remember last night when we were walking over with ryan, every once in a while i'd look around me and people were tagging on both sides of me while we walked. oh, artists.

paris has felt like a movie since i got here. nothing makes any sense, and drama waits at every corner, as well as beautiful landscapes and monuments. i've been working out a lot in my head every day, learning so much about myself. i'm getting much more comfortable with the subways. i also love everyone here, i haven't meant one person i don't like- everyone is so friendly and it feels great to be back in a little campus environment again. everyone knows each other, the teachers know us personally and care about us individually. paris isn't like new york, where everyone is paranoid and unfriendly and always in a hurry. i don't miss home. i don't miss new york. i miss my family and my friends, and i do wish my french were better, but i already feel so safe here.

anyway, today i had an advisor meeting. i finalized my course load. the professor said i was so american, and i asked him what it was he meant. he said he was a linguist and he studies not just languages, but body language as well. he said even the way i smile is so american- the french barely smile and stretch their lips across their faces, and american beam. i beam, apparently. we had a nice, short little conversation.

i was able to finish all of my homework after the meeting and before class. phew.

after class, Aurelle told me that her professor had spoken to her about me and asked if i was her roommate. he said that i was so cute and sweet and that i was so american with my glasses and big eyes and cute face and that he was impressed that i spoke chinese, french, and english. haha, i thought that was sweet of him. i hope he's my teacher!

i also had an almond chocolate croissant and uhh.. i died a little bit.

i was supposed to meet up with Johan but internet was our priority. After countless phone calls, emails, and phone calls from people who worked at NYU, the landlord still stuck to her story that the internet account was active and she was still paying for it. each time we each called, we were told that the account did not actually exist. so today we had had enough. we went to get 3g usb's today after finally getting the woman to admit that the account wasn't active and that she would have to get someone to come install it. meanwhile, she's going to pay for two weeks worth of internet through the usbs.

the store next to campus in Passy ran out of USBs, so we took the metro to Charles de Gaulle/Etoile and got the USBs. Aurelle had the smart idea to try them out in the store. MINE DID NOT WORK. i kept getting an error message, and the man tried to help me but even he didn't know what was happening and said it was my computer, and that i had to go back to get a technician to look at it at 10am tomorrow. i was so, so angry. all i wanted was a big slab of fish, a big salmon steak or something to eat away my anger and sorrow. so we walked around for a bit around the arc de triomphe and found a cute restaurant. i got an onion soup, a glass of rose wine, sole meuniere, and a chocolate souffle.

on the way back we got in a train that was all mirrors, and no separation between the cars, and super spacious and new. then a crazy man walked in and kept staring at us and saying stuff under his breathe, at one point i heard him say "legs legs legs legs legs legs legs legs legs legs legs legs" i laughed the whole way home.

at least i got to see this beauty

wine calmed me down

the skies here are like paintings. every day it changes, from pastel blue to shades of light gray
this is me excited when i first found out i was getting internet. this face only lasted until i plugged in the usb though.
je suis tres americaine, apparently.
