New Hair
Before I left I had my hair cut in NYC and I recounted the disastrous history of my hair.
Petit histoire:
1) hair was accustomed to dry cuts by Gabriel (xtina aguilera's & heidi klum & liv tyler hair stylist) sidenote: I had just seen iron man and loveeeed Liv Tyler's hair in it, which made me want to get a hair cut and try something new other than bumble & bumble so I randomly found on citysearch the John Sahag salon & guess what! The stylist I randomly chose said he actually cut Liv's hair for that movie! Quel chance!)
2) hair was okay in LA thanks to Gabriel's salon recommendation but it cost me a fortune, the most expensive hair cut of my life and NOT worth it
3) Shanghai, got it colored at Toni & Guy which cost me a fortune as well but started to make my scalp itch
4) Korea, went to a salon and the lady who did my hair claimed that because of the texture of my hair, it's hard to manage (this is true) and that there was a new technology available which would smooth out my hair, but retain the volume and texture called a digital perm. I imagined something akin to medusa and the matrix, combined, so I did it. Result: limp, fine hair, took out all of the color that I had just gotten done less than a month ago, and my hair started to fall out.
5)NYC, it looked horrible for a while. Had it cut, and tried to somehow cut off the ends that were permed in perfect ringlets and looked so stupid. I looked awful. Had to wear my hair up.
6) NYC, again, waiting for it to grow out. Months and months and months. Still no sight of my original hair. Had it cut again, and the lady said, wow, you're going to France now, I wonder what the French will do to your hair............
so of course I HAD to test that out.. Didn't learn from my past experiences NOT to get hair done in foreign countries. Risk taker. Ha.
Went to the salon on Rue de Martyrs which is the next block over to this funky place with octopi painted on the walls and a huge jukebox in the middle. I walked in, no one was in there, just some guys with dread locks. I started to panic. I asked if anyone spoke english. They said "pas du tout" means- not at all. I got realllllly nervous, but decided to try it out anyway. Had a lot of trouble explaining my ideas.. Told him I wanted to keep the length but I ended up saying I want to keep the size. I said it was too ugly. and I started thinking maybe I should just leave, but the guy was patient with me and said no I'm listening. So I motioned around my head and finally sighed and said "make it more pretty". He was like, okay.
This is my favorite cut to date.
Usually I'm just like, mmm... yeah i guess it's fine. But this was the first time when my compliments were filled with sincerity. This was also the cheapest haircut I've ever gotten.
Oh, the french know what they're doing. Yay!
